English Literature students collaborating with Electrical Engineering students of Universitas Brawijaya won a bronze medal at the International Invention & Innovative Competition (INIIC Series 1 2019) by MNNF Network held at Mahkota Hotel, Malacca, Malaysia on April 27, 2019.
The team consisting of 5 students, which are Vinna Agustina Winata, Uwaes Brantasia, and Alisha Adriananda from English Literature. The other two are Lalu Arya Taruna Jaya and Kholiq Nur from Electrical Engineering Universitas Brawijaya.
With the title of the W—SB – Women Security Button, Prevention and Protection Device of Women from Sexual Harassment. One step to prevent sexual harassment against women.
W-SB is a device created to protect women from sexual harassment. This innovation comes from sexual harassment against women is an action that lately has often happened and become headlines in various mass media.
W-SB device works using a touch sensor and able to send the user’s location to another smartphone that has been determined as the shipping object. It uses Arduino, Wifi modules, pressure sensors, and buzzers. The Wifi modules are used to connect the device with the user’s smartphone.
When someone feels unsafety at that time, the user can touch the sensor’s button. Then, the sensor will activate the buzzer and send the location via the user’s smartphone to another smartphone that has been determined to receive the message, such as a family member or closest person to the woman.
