Study Program of English Literature (SPEL) Faculty and Cultural Studies (FCS) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) held an Alumni Talk Webinar themed “Preparatory Training for Employment and Entrepreneurship during the New Normal Era” on Sunday (9/28/2020). The webinar is for students and alumni of SPEL.
The webinar uses zoom and was moderated by Fariska Pujianti, M.Hum., a lecturer of SPEL FCS UB. Four guest speakers were invited including Marketing Director of PT Keramik Tanah Agung and Head of Division VII of HIPMI Malang, Victorio Jerry; CEO of Serlium Leather, Sherlie Dwi Hapsari; BCA International Bank Officer, Retno Ambar Arum; and a Lecturer and TOEFL Instructure of UB, M. Suluh Jati.
The webinar began at 9 o’clock. The first agenda was the opening speech from Isti Purwaningtyas, M.Pd, as the Head of SPEL FCS UB. She said that alumni play an important role in the study program.
“Feedback from alumni after graduating is really important for the study program,” she said.
She hoped that the webinar motivates the students of SPEL to keep growing their potential.
Arum delivered the first session. She shared some tips for a job interview and how to act in a working environment. She believed that consistency, sincerity, integrity, passion, as well as good teamwork, and communication skills are very important.
Afterward, Sherlie began the second session. She shared some tips in developing a business based on her own experience as an entrepreneur. She said that it is important to be confident, to keep creating fresh ideas and marketing strategy, to work hard, also to give alms and ask for prayers to parents.
The webinar was then continued by a session delivered by Jerry. He emphasized the importance of networking and collaboration in the entrepreneur world. He also gave a glance at HIPMI’s (Association of Indonesia’s Young Entrepreneur) history.
Lastly, Suluh delivered his presentation about how to keep a language course thriving during the pandemic. He explained the business potential in the online course and how to start the business.
