SMAN 42 Jakarta’s Campus Tour in FCS UB

Faculty of Cultural Studies Brawijaya University welcomed the campus tour from SMAN 42 Jakarta on Tuesday (03/10/2020). A total of 120 persons attended the visit, including students, parents, and school officials. At 8:00 a.m., they arrived. The event took place in Building A FCS UB’s Hall.

The participants of the campus tour were greeted by Ella Murdewanto as the representative of the parent’s committee. “We are grateful to have such a warm welcome by the FCS UB. We, as a parents committee are looking forward to having our students studying here because as we know UB is among the most popular universities while also having a fresh atmosphere,” she said.

The event was continued by the welcome-speech from Nanang Endrayanto, M.Sc., as the representatives of the FCS UB. He welcomed the students by reading Seonggok Jagung, one of his favorite poems by W. S. Rendra, to which the students responded enthusiastically.

“From that poem, I was getting more determined to go to college, especially to go to the FCS because I realized that students in Literature are so cool. So, we have to keep our determination and be grateful for our life,” he added. After the speech, the FCS UB and the SMAN 42 Jakarta were giving souvenirs to each other.

The speaker for the next session, Melania Shinta Harendika, M.A, gave a detailed presentation on the FCS UB. She went over everything from the FCS UB’s vision and objective to the collaborative study program with foreign universities in great detail. Nanang Endrayanto, M.Sc. resumed the presentation by presenting the FCS UB study programs.

During the presentation, students and parents from SMAN 42 Jakarta participated in a question-and-answer session. One of the students’ inquiries was whether graduate students with a Fine Arts degree had the opportunity to work as a (traditional) dance teacher; another was whether a Fine Arts student would have the opportunity to learn about eastern Indonesian culture. In the English Literature program, there was also a question about the disparity between regular and international class programs.

These questions were answered by Nanang Endrayanto, M.Sc., and Melania Shinta Harendika, M.A. Also, about the difference between international and regular classes in English Literature FCS UB is how international students will get a chance to do an internship, double degree, and short course program abroad.

Last but not least, there was a quiz regarding the information of the FCS UB that had been explained before. The students were so thrilled to answer the quiz and those who could answer the quiz received some gifts from the FCS UB.
