English Morphology of the Day: “Twitter Slang in Morphology”

In several social media such as Twitter, we commonly found popular language called the term Slang there. As well as the name of Slang itself is a language that is quite popular among internet users, netizens mainly teenager users. Teenagers are identical to the popular language since they have a lot of time to spend inside of the cyber world. The different processes of words formations formed various words of Slang. There are several Slang words on Twitter that are displayed on the poster above. Here the further explanation about it,

 

  1. QRT

An abbreviation that consists of the initialism taken from the first letter of each words Quote ReTweet shaped the term QRT. The consonant “R” in “ReTweet” counted as an initial. It is caused by the word formation of that word is the prefix “re-” added into “Tweet”. While the QRT’s meaning is a quotation of someone’s tweet on Twitter to post again by adding comment by the retweeter.

 

  1. OOMF

An acronym of One Of My Followers that used to mention without mentioning the name of the follower on Twitter. Moreover, there is another meaning of it, One Of My Friends used to mention a friend without calling the name of that friend.

 

  1. Menfess

A blending formed two words that consist of the word “mention” and “confess” then produce the term menfess. Menfess itself is used when someone wants to convey something secretly to the other without mentioning the name of the sender.

 

  1. Hashtag

Term shaped by compounding words into a new word. In this hashtag term the words “Hash” and “tag” compound in a unity. Result of the two words used to call the mark # which is one of Twitter’s characteristics.

A blending formed from two words which are “Mutual” and “Followers”. This slang is used to referring the active users of that social media that have contributed to the account of one another.
