The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of Indonesia had launched a program called Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka or MBKM. One of its programs is the Student Exchange Program. Through this program, students can explore Indonesian cultural diversity, build a relationship with students from different regions, and get a chance to experience learning activities in other universities in Indonesia.
In this Pertukaran Mahasiswa program, the English Literature Study Program is in partnership with three universities in Indonesia, one of them is the State University of Semarang. This program took place from August 2021 to January 2022. Four English Literature students have joined this program. They took Literary Criticism and English Morphology as their course’s choice with 2-course credit for each that can be converted to the courses that are relevant in the home university. These four students are the class of 2020’s students. This Student Exchange Program was held for free.
This Student Exchange between Brawijaya University and State University of Semarang was done online due to restrictions because of Covid-19. However, students still get the benefit of this program. One of them is learning about other cultures through the language used in daily conversation. For example, Brawijaya University students who joined the program at the State University of Semarang can analyze the differences between Javanese used in Malang and Semarang. In addition, with this partnership program, the relationship between the English Literature Study Program of Universitas Brawijaya and the English Literature Study Program of State University of Semarang will be closer.
