FCS UB Won on UBDC and KDMI

Great news came from the students of the Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) for their achievements in the UBDC (University of Brawijaya Debating Championship) and KDMI (Indonesian Student Debate Competition) 2023. They are Zarah Nabilla Ramadhani (Japanese Literature), Royhan Abdiel Daniswara (English Literature), and Dinda Ayu Anggraeni (Chinese Literature).

Zarah and Royhan won 1st place at UBDC on Saturday (3/18/2023). Moreover, Zarah also won the Best Speaker and was chosen to represent UB in the NUDC (National University Debating Championship). Meanwhile, Dinda succeeded in becoming the 3rd Best Breaking Adjudicator at KDMI on Sunday (3/19/2023)

“To be honest, during the grand finale, we got a topic about US politics. We were shocked because our opponents were from the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences where they had a much stronger basic about the topic. Then we thought about how to make our argument stronger. We conveyed what we know, which is about the Left and Right Wing,” said Royhan.

“I hope that in the future, juniors can be trained from the beginning at FCS. For example, the Study Programme of English Literature has Speaking classes, which can improve, prepare, and rehearse the juniors’ debating skill. So, the juniors will be better prepared in the future,” he hoped.

Dinda also shared her experience while participating in the competition as a KDMI Adjudicator.

“On D-day, I felt very enthusiastic and nervous because my duty was to assess teams from other faculties. There were three preliminary rounds and one final. The N1 Adjudicator had three levels, namely trainee, chair, and breaking. For the first stage, all trainees’ adjudicators were allowed to assess with the official jury. But for the final, only breaking adjudicators promoted by official judges could judge in the final round,” she said.

Dinda was surprised when she found out that she made it to the final round and could assess in the final of KDMI UB.

“I never thought that my name was actually in the final announcement along with two other students from the Faculty of Computer Science. So, officially I was allowed to assess the four debate teams in the final of KDMI UB,” she continued.

“I will never forget this experience. There is only one N1 Adjudicator who would represent UB at the national level, and I am in the third place. I feel grateful to have the opportunity to have this experience during my undergraduate days,” she concluded.

There were also other delegations from FCS UB who participated in the event which took place in the Hall of Building B FCS UB. They were Satrio Derial Amirullah (English Language Education), Pugoh Ananta Putra (Chinese Literature), and Lely Kurnia Sari (Indonesian Language and Literature Education).
