Study Program of English Literature, Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) held a guest lecture with the theme Introduction to Travel Writing – Selecting, Narrating, and Writing Moments of Traveling via the Zoom platform on Saturday (14/11/20). The event was hosted by Melania Shinta Harendika, M.A. as the moderator.
The guest lecture was attended by Creative Writing lecturers and the 5th-semester students who are taking the Creative Writing course which consists of approximately 40 participants. The guest lecture was Assoc. Prof. John Ryan, a lecturer at Southern Cross University and Notre Dame University in Australia. He is an expert in writing and has a lot of experience.
John Ryan explained the introduction of Travel Writing. To add insight and liven up the atmosphere of interaction, students read the poetry assigned in the previous guest lecture. Then the lecturers gave feedback on students’ poems. After that, the students were given the task of making advertisements in Malang and its surrounding areas. The task was carried out by a group of four people who have been divided by the moderator into breakout rooms in the Zoom application. The participants then presented the results of the group discussion. This guest lecture on Creative Writing has the aim that students can hone their critical writing skills. [DSM/DTS/MSH/PR FCS]
