Live Discussion: Study Abroad, Why Not?

English Literature Alumni Association, Faculty of Cultural Studies Brawijaya University conducted the third session of the online talk show through Instagram Live Stream via account @ikasiub on Saturday (8/1/2020).

The interview began at 8 p.m., with Amilia Izdiana, a student in the English Literature Study Program, participating as the moderator. Dimas Iqbal Romadhon, an English Literature alumnus who completed his studies at the University of Washington in the United States, was invited as the guest speaker this time.

The event covered a wide range of topics related to studying abroad. Dimas recounted how he began his journey by contacting various academics before being accepted to conduct joint research by a professor from Seattle. He received his master’s degree in International Studies at the University of Washington because to his dedication and hard work. After completing his phd, he is now teaching at the same university’s Medical of Anthropology and Global Health Program.

Dimas also expressed his thoughts on studying overseas. He believes it is critical to be self-assured and courageous. He explained that students might continue their studies in another country in two ways. Students can apply themselves when institutions begin accepting applications, or they can approach lecturers personally, as Dimas did.

“Professors would be happy to welcome students who are confident to assist in joint research,” he said.

Before wrapping off the meeting, Dimas discussed the problems of living in a multicultural society like the United States. He also talked about his unforgettable experience while studying at FCS UB, how he achieved a lot, and his friendship with some of the teachers at English Literature FCS UB.
