The Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) this year celebrated the welcoming of the 2021/2022 Academic Year freshmen. In order to introduce the campus to these freshmen, there were two events held by the faculty, namely Education Orientation, which was held on Saturday (8/21/2021), and Student Orientation, which was held on Sunday (8/22/2021). The event was hosted by Jamila Wijayanti, S.S., M.Pd. online as the impact of pandemic COVID-19.
Opening the inauguration ceremony, Dra. Elisabeth Worobroto Purwaningrum, M.Li, as the Chair of the Committee conveyed a report that in the 2021 new academic year. She mentioned that FCS UB accepted as many as 950 new students.
“The details are 935 students from the undergraduate level and 15 students from the Masters level of the Study Programme of Master of Linguistics,” she said.
The Dean of FCS UB, Prof. Dr. Agus Suman, S.E., DEA., also welcomed and advised the freshmen in his short speech.
“Welcome freshmen to the FCS UB. We are currently facing difficult times in this pandemic era. All activities are carried out online and we are familiar with online applications that connect one another. Students must be smart not only academically but also with other intelligence. We are not only connoisseurs who are good at continuing other people’s discoveries, but we are expected to be able to be new inventors that are useful for society and make UB, especially our faculty, proud,” said Agus Suman.
The event continued with the symbolic embedding of participant marks by the Dean as the inauguration of the opening of PKKMB activities. Overview video teasers of an introduction to structural officials in FCS UB based on their respective departments and study programs were also presented during the event.
As the main event, the freshmen were invited to know campus life and the academic system, the introduction of the Merdeka Belajar system, the scholarship system, and its kinds. The SIAM application which is a source of student information, academic ethics, and information about the Single Tuition Fee was also explained. All was delivered briefly by the structural officials in turn and the Academic Education Personnel involved in it.
