British People

FCS UB, Malang – When we hear British people, what comes to our mind? Most people think that British with a distinctive accent. However, there are 4 groups of people in Great Britain who dominate, namely the English, Welsh, Scottish and Irish.

It is hard and risky to define the typical British person. After all, Great Britain is a country with many immigrants who grew up from the mix of four countries over time. One of the most common cultural mistakes is to mistake the Scots for English and vice versa. Below is a discussion of how we can distinguish the British from the rest of the population.

England

The largest country in Great Britain, home to residents who enjoy a cup of tea every morning. Yes, it is not a secret that the British population is the highest consumption of tea than any other country in the world. British people are generally portrayed as luxurious individuals, talking like queens to drinking tea and eating sandwiches all the time. Men in neatly groomed suits and bowler hats will come to mind. In reality, wearing a bowler hat is no longer fashionable, and most British people do not speak with the Queen style. Still, they enjoyed tea and sandwiches. This fact cannot be separated from the British people. They can be very quiet and cold, in times of crisis they tend not to show their panic or irritation. Instead, they chose to keep going. English will solve any problem with the help of a cup of tea!. In this position, we as an outsider is better to not assume that the silence that happens as rude, sometimes English people need a little more time to talk.

Wales

Welsh people are known to be very patriotic and fierce, but very shy and quiet which is very confusing. Wales is a country within Great Britain, they have their own language, namely Welsh, although everyone in Wales can also speak English.

Rugby is more popular in Wales than football as it is in England, to the point where it transcends religious belief. We will notice the Welsh people singing the national anthem, which is called “Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau,” with real joy and pride. The Welsh people are people of striking appearance with clipped green and blue eyes and jet-black hair.

Scotland

Country in the northern part of the beautiful British Isles. Home to the great mountains of Great Britain and its dramatic coastline washed by the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

The stereotype for Scottish people is they are red-haired, fierce and strong with an addiction to whiskey. While, not all of Scots have red hair, they still boast of their rare genetic makeup. The man in the square skirt must cross the mind of anyone who thinks of Scottish people. However, they do not really use skirts in their daily lives, most of them use trousers to attend formal events.

Northern Ireland

The island of Ireland is divided into two. Most of the island is the Republic of Ireland, separated from Great Britain. The northeast corner is occupied by the inhabitants of Northern Ireland, which is part of Great Britain.

Both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland are famous for their celebrations to mark their patron saint, St Patrick. The celebration held on March 17 was originally a holy day, but these days the holiday is associated with parades and Guinness beer, Ireland’s national drink. Two of the most striking things about Irish people are their charming accents and their charm. They love to talk and they love to laugh. Do not be surprised if you meet Irish people, drink with them for hours, and end up feeling as though they are our best friends.
