English Literature and English Education Study Program Faculty of Cultural Studies Brawijaya University (FIB UB) has formed a committee and formed a cooperation program called ‘EAST’ (English Annual Students Tournament) with the theme ‘Heroes of Olympus’. This activity was led by Nadilla Rahma Dia Ningrum, invited high school/vocational/MA equivalent students and varsity throughout Indonesia which was held on 4 October 2020 and 22-25 October 2020 with an online system due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
This event aims to (1) introduce to the public about the English Literature Study Program and English Language Education at the Faculty of Cultural Studies, Brawijaya University, (2) build a competitive spirit among high school/vocational/MA equivalent students and national level students, (3) improve and develop participants’ English skills through storytelling, olympiad, and speech, (4) hone student creativity through Short Movie Making and essay making, (5) improve college students teamwork skills in committees, (6) strengthen relationships between English Literature and English Language Education student association.
EAST 2020 is divided into two types of activities, namely EAST 2020 Competition and EAST 2020 Web Seminar (Webinar). The competitions for high school (SMA or equivalent) are Speech, Olympiad, and Storytelling, while for Varsity (students) are Essay Writing, Short Movie Making, and Speech
There were 400 people in the webinar at EAST 2020. Meanwhile, 72 people competed in the EAST Olympics, while 15 people participated in the storytelling competition. There were 32 competitors in the high school speech branch and 7 participants in the Varsity speech branch. There were 13 participants in total, including those who competed in the essay writing competition. Due to the cancellation of the filmmaking competition, the total number of participants in the competition is 140 people.
